There are few things more telling about a world than what people say about it for themselves. Or as it goes, what the media monster pushes them to believe.
A newscast details Cassian Lee's excessive use of force.[1]
Following Cassian Lee's confrontation with Ralph the Clown, a public television blares the details. In contrast to the claims of public outcry, the scene is surprisingly serene. People mill about casually, and no one is shown reacting to the news. That is, until the follow up when Tuppence Schiller gives the psyker a stern reprimand.
Transcription:
There has been public outcry that what a psyker did to the bank robbers yesterday afternoon... on South Fifth Avenue was an excessive use of force. That is why the Human Rights Committee officially sent a request to Lampas... to punish Cassian Lee, the top-class psyker, for his acts of ruthless violence.
Freshly reincarnated and utterly skeptical about his new situation, Cassian looks himself up. He turns up a coverup article. This bit of writing directly contradicts the story so far by claiming that he had been taking bribes and murdered the man he'd called brother. This is the final straw to trigger Cassian's villain awakening.
This particular article provides the first scrap of concrete information about Jeff Malek's job position as a top-class psyker.
It's notable that Cassian Lee's death is attributed to a successful secret operation to eliminate rogue psykers.
A news article describes Daewung Lee's role and promise.[3]
As Cassian reads this article, he orally remarks, "Three people died already."
Newscast: Another Attack[]
A newscast covers a violent altercation at the local arcade.[4]
Following Bloodrain's attack on Minyeong An and Naeun Kim, a newscast airs covering the events. They get a few things wrong. It's a coverup that credits psykers, even though they didn't get there until the confrontation was over and the killer long escaped.[4]
Transcription:
Yesterday at 8 PM... There was an attack by a villain suspected to be the serial killer. Fortunately, thanks to the psykers who were dispatched to the scene just in time, there were no fatalities. One highschool girl who was attacked by the villain is currently hospitalized, but her injuries are not said to be life-threatening.
Naeun ♡[]
A user on knockoff Instagram points out the Kim siblings' family resemblance.[4]
While looking for clues about where Bloodrain might strike next, Gangu scouts social media for information about the girls who were attacked. It turns out the pink-haired one is Naeun Kim, his psyker apprentice classmate's younger sister.
At last, after a long chase, close calls and one tragic bloodbath, the killer is caught. Uchan tells the media that it wasn't actually him, but do they tell the truth? No. The spirit of honest journalism is found lacking in this universe.
This broadcast plays on the hospital television in a recovery room where Uchan and Daewung Lee are resting. After Daewung applauds Uchan, the young apprentice again tries to straighten story. His mentor believes him, but the rest of the world carries on with the fabricated narrative.[5]
Transcription:
Last night, Bloodrain was wreaking havoc in a club in Gadam... But he was eventually apprehended after a fierce battle. He is a notorious criminal who has terrorized the entire community. Thanks to the heroic efforts of the promising young psyker who fought against him, Uchan Kim...
Uchan Kim, the Promising Young Psyker Trainee's Heroic...[]
Sechan checks his phone and shows it to his fellow bullies. Apparently their schoolmate is making a name for himself! They think it's pretty cool.[5]
Two articles are previewed. The first appears to be word-for-word transcription of the news broadcast seen earlier in the episode (Serial Killer, Finally Caught!)
The second article declares Uchan Kim a hero for fighting Bloodrain, the cold-blooded killer. To their credit, Uchan did indeed fight Bloodrain, even if his actions were at best, ineffective.
Below the article previews, there also appears to be a link to the earlier telecast.
Villains from the Gadam Vilzone You Should Never Encounter in Your Life[]
Six villains are ranked for local danger level. It's sort of a joke. Sort of.[6]
News gets around fast. Cassian has officially declared his villain name: Cassian. Knowledge of this name is spread is an article that... is more or less a joke, but the girls at Seohwa Art School sure think it's deadly serious.
Although not directly evidenced in the tier list, the girls of Seohwa Art School talk about Cassian being the new vilzone boss, so the information is out there. Whether it's connected with this tier list or in an unseen related article is in question.
In order, the villains of Gadam Vilzone are ranked in a threat/popularity tier.
Over in the vilzone, Crush is utterly pleased to be ranked 6th. However, the conversation quickly turns to old superstitions about villain names...
In a later episode, Uchan pulls up the tier list to steam over the new villain scumbag who keeps saving people. Even worse, he named himself Cassian.[7]
Breaking News: Gift Box Monsters[]
Driver catches news of yet another villain attack in Gadam.[8]
Breaking news. Monsters wearing gift boxes have appeared and are currently wreaking havoc in a shopping district in Gadam. The police suspect that it's a villain terror attack, and... Let's hear more from our reporter at the scene.
YEBC: Interview with Jiseon Ham[]
Following Toymaker's attack, Jiseon Ham is interviewed on a broadcasting network for her insight as a high ranking psyker. Jiseon calmly and rationally foists the blame on a system. She offers a great deal of information about how their world is structured, such as the role of vilzones in lowering crimerates. It's suggested that the recent spike in villainous crime in Gadam is due to an issue with their local vilzone.
Jiseon is interviewed after Toymaker's attack on Gadam.[7]
Uchan Kim is watching this from his home television.
Transcription:
Newscaster:
There was a villain attack in the Gadam Shopping District yesterday afternoon. And that villain was Toymaker, right?
Jiseon Ham:
That's right. His indiscriminant rampage led to numerous injuries as well as property damage.
Newscaster:
It seems like villain attacks are becoming ever more frequent in Gadam. Why do you think this is?
Jiseon Ham:
For your information, the vilzone system shows that it is possible to enforce social restrictions on villains. Statistics show that cities with a vilzone boast lower crime rates than those without. And I believe there's a recent rise in villain attacks in Gadam... Because the Gadam Vilzone system isn't working properly.
Newscaster:
Thank you for your insight. Then what do you suppose the solution is?
Jiseon Ham:
I think we need to take special measures, such as rebuilding the Gadam Vilzone. And if it weren't for the heroism of our fellow psykers, there would have been greater casualties.
Uchan's face turns somber.
Newscaster:
Indeed. I heard of the great work Mr. Uchan Kim and Mr. Jiho Seo did, the two psyker trainees. And Mr. Uchan Kim in particular has managed some remarkable exploits of late. What is your take on him?
Jiseon Ham:
He's considered one of the most promising psyker trainees, even within Lampas Korea. Some are even discussing the possibility of shortening his apprenticeship, which is quite rare, and--
Barracuda monologues about a defamation campaign.[9]
Following Shadow Ghost's kidnapping of Naeun Kim, Barracuda explains the plan. Because Ghost had been transformed in Cassian's likeness while he dragged the girl off in broad daylight, it's certain to garner media attention, and the worst sort.
"It'll be all over the news soon enough," says Barracuda. "They'll say the Gadam villains are despicable scoundrels that went as far as to kidnap a psyker's sister, a civilian."
As it turns out, Barracuda is not the mastermind, but a pawn of Don King. Driver accuses the real mastermind of framing him through recent incidents and slandering his name. He specifically cites sending Blaster and Bloodrain into Gadam, and even mentions the rumor of human experimentation.[10]
Northern District vs Gadam: A Vilzone Power Struggle?![]
In the fallout of the raid to rescue Naeun, Uchan thumbs through the news on his phone.
Transcription:
(Reporter Moon-kyo Kim) Last night, a battle broke out in the Northern vilzone. It is assumed that the villains in question are from the Northern and Gadam Vilzones, where conflict has reached its peak.
Right on time, Daewung Lee appears and asks Uchan if he's seen the news. They talk, Daewung believing he has some inside information until Uchan drops the real news.
The New Face of the Gadam Vilzone?![]
Red Mask gets his official media debut.
Season 2[]
"Stronger Regulations" Against Vilzones Necessary[]
A university professor presents his case for the Gadam Vilzone being so completely out of hand that no one at all local can handle it. He demeans everyone, villain and psyker alike, going so far as to suggest the general populace might have to ask the Shinhwa Vilzone for help.[11]
This broadcast is witnessed on live recording by several parties, from the local psykers to the Gadam villains. They're all deeply offended.
